Lessons & Guiding

Rick Spey Casting

You don't need to be a great fly caster to catch a fish, but the better caster you are, the more fish you'll catch, it's that simple!

Our goal and commitment is to teach you to be a better fly caster and fly-fisher. If you are a first time student who has never had a fly rod in hand, let us teach you the proper way. If you are planning a trip let us work with you to improve your casting skills and make your trip more successful.

Single Hand Lessons

All lessons will be based on an hourly rate and designed to meet your needs from beginner to advanced fly casting.

Our programs are designed to cover all the basics - Roll-Cast, Over Head Cast, Belgian Cast, Dealing with Wind, Accuracy, Double Haul, Distance, and more.

If you have been a fly-fisher for a number of years and have formed some bad habits and you need a casting tune up?

Please give us a call. Coaching is a part of every sport, and so it is with fly casting. Maybe just adding a few extra yards of distance to make your next Tarpon trip a success, or perhaps presenting a dry fly more effectively on a mountain stream. We'll help you improve your fishing ability.

We can also design a course to focus and improve on your specific needs.

For more information go to our Contact & Rates page to find out more and contact us to book your lesson today.

Spey Lessons

Spey casting lessons will be based on 4 hours and are designed to meet your needs, from beginner to advanced.

Our 4-hour programs are designed to tweak and hone the experienced angler as well as help you get started in spey casting / fishing. This is a great program to take prior to spending money on equipment. We'll supply rods / reels, etc. and you'll finish the program with a complete understanding on everything spey!

We work with our local shops and will put together a list of equipment and suggestions that will make your day on the river more pleasurable. Give us a call, let's talk!

Drift Spey Schools

A quick google search will show you that we are the only outfitter in Southern Ontario to offer this program.

Our Drift-Spey School is an in-depth program on Spey Casting and Fishing with a Two-Handed Rod. We will also be offering a full day Switch Rod Program, including Airflo's new Speydicator lines. As with all our full day programs lunch will be provided. We can supply all the equipment, allow you to try it, and make suggestions before you purchase any equipment. It's all about you!

This is a complete day on the river with instruction presenting all you'll need to learn to be a successful spey caster / fisher. We'll present a discussion on boat & wading safety, equipment assembly, we'll build a spey leader, cast both sides of the river with roll, switch, double-snap T and Circle C; and learn about sink-tip systems and how to present a fly, mending etc. As with all our courses and programs, we can always custom build a program to suit specific needs. We can give you a tune-up and you can spend the remainder of the day being guided if so desired. Our customers are most important part of our business.

Guiding

Our Guiding Program in Southern Ontario can be summed up as follows: The diversity of the cold water and warm game fish species mixed with the overall number of fly fishing opportunities this area has to offer is truly world class. Rainbow Trout, Steelhead, Brown Trout, and Bass; we will target these different species in season. We start in early spring and guide until freeze-up in the fall. With so many fish, so many locations, and so little time, let us share our fishing knowledge and resources to help you experience the ultimate fly fishing trip as we present some of the best fishing Southern Ontario has to offer.

Full Day Guided Fly Fishing Trips

We offer a full-day (8 hours) guided fly fishing raft trip with lunch provided. We can provide all the equipment for the first time fly fisher. Please contact us for more information dates and times.

Please Note: If river conditions change we may reschedule your trip; our policy is to provide the best possible day on the river for our clients.
